Hi, and welcome to a new edition of [The Daily Dealflow](https://www.theinvestorsociety.com/tag/the-daily-dealflow/) — the 5-minute briefing that gives you clear context on capital flows and market-moving trends across the Americas, from Silicon Valley to Buenos Aires. Let's dive in.

## 🏆 Deal of the Day

Etched, the San Jose-based AI inference hardware startup, raised $700M in a round led by Jane Street that doubled its valuation to $21 billion in under a month, according to [TechCrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2026/08/18/etcheds-valuation-doubles-to-21b-in-a-month/?ref=theinvestorsociety.com). The round follows Jane Street's decision to buy and deploy one of Etched's "frontier inference cluster" racks in its own datacenter, making the quant trading giant both an investor and a paying customer. Other backers in the round include Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Tiger Global, Blackstone and Peter Thiel.

**Why This?:** AI infrastructure spending is reshaping capital flows from Silicon Valley to data-center buildouts across the hemisphere, and mega-rounds like this show how concentrated late-stage AI capital has become.

**Positive Context:**

- Etched's valuation more than doubled from $10.3B in a $300M Series C just weeks earlier, reflecting investor conviction that purpose-built inference chips can out-compete general-purpose GPUs for the fastest-growing segment of AI workloads.
- Backing from Sequoia, a16z, Kleiner Perkins, Tiger Global, Blackstone and Peter Thiel signals institutional confidence that extends well beyond one customer's endorsement.

**Yes, but:**

- Etched still ships essentially one product line, leaving near-term revenue concentrated among a narrow set of enterprise customers.
- A valuation that doubles in a matter of weeks revives familiar questions about how much of today's AI infrastructure financing reflects durable unit economics versus momentum investing.

**Zoom in:** Jane Street didn't just write a check — it tested Etched's chip against its own trading workloads first, and only led the round after putting a production rack to work in its own datacenter.

Now, we're sprinting on scaling production for the rest of our customers."*** — [Gavin Uberti](https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2026/08/18/3347095/0/en/etched-raises-700m-at-a-21b-valuation-and-completes-first-customer-delivery-to-jane-street.html?ref=theinvestorsociety.com), co-founder and CEO of Etched.
