Flai, a startup that builds AI software for U.S. car dealerships, announced on October 6, 2026, a US$27 million Series A led by Base10 Partners. Toyota Ventures, First Round Capital, Y Combinator and two dealer groups, The Friedkin Group and Findlay Automotive Group, also invested. Flai was founded in July 2025 by Uruguayans Ari Polakof, the CEO; his brother Alen Polakof, the CTO, who previously worked at HappyRobot and Uber; and Juan Alzugaray, who runs operations and was a data scientist at Netflix.

The software answers customer calls, texts and emails, runs outbound campaigns and books sales and service appointments. Alongside the round, Flai launched an AI-native CRM for sales and service that follows up on recalls and declined services, recovers missed appointments and hands cases to staff when a person needs to step in. The company says it books about 50,000 appointments a month, works with more than 10 of the 50 largest U.S. dealer groups and grew revenue 20 times in a year. It can go live at a dealership 10 days after signing. The money will go to product, engineering and deeper integrations with dealership systems.

## Market Context

Flai moved fast. It raised a US$4.5 million seed in October 2025, led by First Round Capital, and later extended it to US$6 million when Toyota Ventures joined. Its team has grown from three people to about 40, and half of its revenue comes from new customers, mostly through dealer referrals. Polakof says he and the team visited around 400 dealerships while building the product.

The problem it targets is simple: dealerships miss calls and fail to follow up. Flai says U.S. dealers lose more than US$1 million a year to missed calls. More AI companies are now chasing the same customers, and Meta has pitched its Muse product as an all-in-one AI tool for small businesses. Polakof argues that Flai's focus on one industry and its quick setup protect it from broader tools, and he sees the new competition as proof that the market is real.

## Key Signal

> "We've grown quite a bit from just a phone solution to more of a platform." Ari Polakof, CEO and Co-Founder, Flai

## Regional Relevance

For the United States, Flai shows how AI agents are moving into traditional businesses that run on phone calls and follow-ups. Car dealerships depend on service appointments and repeat customers, and many still lose leads because no one picks up. Having Toyota's venture arm and two dealer groups on the cap table means the people who run dealerships are investing in the tool, which is a stronger signal than financial backing alone.

For Uruguay and Latin America, Flai is another example of founders from a small market building a U.S.-focused company in Silicon Valley and raising from top-tier funds within a year and a half of starting. Language is also part of the story: one of its clients is an eight-store luxury dealer group in Puerto Rico where customers switch between Spanish and English mid-conversation. That bilingual capability is relevant for the Hispanic market in the U.S. and, eventually, for dealers in Latin America, though Flai has announced no plans to expand there.

## The Other Side

**Does a booked appointment become a sale?** The 50,000 figure counts appointments scheduled, not customers who showed up, cars sold or services completed. Flai has not shared show rates or conversion data.

**How big is the business behind the 20x?** Flai did not disclose absolute revenue or its valuation. Twenty-fold growth in a company founded in mid-2025 likely starts from a small base, so the multiple says more about speed than scale.

**Can 40 people keep up?** Growth is coming mostly through referrals, and Polakof has promised responses to customers within 20 minutes. Keeping that service level while adding dealer groups, and while larger platforms move into the same space, will be the real test of the new funding.
