Matchpoint Therapeutics, a biotech in Watertown, Massachusetts, raised a US$150 million Series B co-led by Nextech Invest and Norwest, FinSMEs reported on October 9, 2026, after the company announced the round on October 7\. New investors Invus, BB Biotech, T1D Fund and BOLD Longevity Growth joined existing backers Access Biotechnology and Atlas Venture, which founded the company, along with Sanofi Ventures, which led the Series A, and Digitalis Ventures. Kanishka Pothula of Nextech and Brian Matesic of Norwest will join the board. The company is led by CEO Andre Turenne. It was built on research by Edward Chouchani, Nathanael Gray, Tinghu Zhang and Jianwei Che, with science from Chouchani's lab at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Most of the money will take MPT-062, the company's lead drug, to clinical proof of concept, with human testing set to begin in 2027\. MPT-062 is a pill meant to calm the overactive T cells, a type of immune cell, that drive many autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Matchpoint has not disclosed the drug's target or which disease it will test first. The rest of the round funds its broader pipeline, including a second program paid for by Novartis under a July 2025 agreement.

## Market Context

Matchpoint makes covalent drugs, small molecules that bind permanently to their target protein. That approach can reach proteins that conventional drugs struggle to hit, and it allows treatment by pill rather than by injection, which is how many leading autoimmune therapies are given today. The company combines chemistry, protein structure work and computational tools to find these binding sites.

Big pharma has already paid for access. Under the July 2025 deal, Novartis took an option on Matchpoint's oral covalent drugs against an undisclosed transcription factor, a protein that switches genes on, linked to several inflammatory diseases. Endpoints News and BioXconomy put the upfront payment at US$60 million. MedPath describes it as up to US$60 million in upfront and research funding, with total potential payments of up to US$1 billion. Before this round, Matchpoint had raised about US$100 million: a US$30 million seed in 2021 and a US$70 million Series A in 2022.

## Key Signal

> "MPT-062 could fundamentally change the management of many common immune-mediated inflammatory conditions with an oral medicine." Kanishka Pothula, Ph.D., Managing Partner, Nextech Invest

## Regional Relevance

For the United States, the round shows investors are still willing to fund large private rounds for preclinical immunology. Autoimmune diseases affect millions of Americans, and many current treatments are injectable biologics. A pill that works as well would be easier for patients to take and could shift how these conditions are managed.

For Massachusetts, Matchpoint is another example of the Boston area's research to startup pipeline. The science came out of Harvard and Dana-Farber, the company was built by local investor Atlas Venture, and its first big partner is Novartis, which runs major research operations in Cambridge. The new money will mostly be spent on local lab and clinical work.

## The Other Side

**Why keep the target secret?** Matchpoint has named neither MPT-062's target nor its first disease. That is common at this stage for competitive reasons, but it means outsiders cannot yet judge how crowded the field is or how big the market could be.

**Is the drug ready for people?** MPT-062 has not been tested in humans. Clinical work is planned for 2027, and most preclinical drugs fail somewhere between first trials and approval, often on safety.

**How much is the Novartis deal worth?** Reports differ on the structure, and the US$1 billion figure is a ceiling that depends on milestones Novartis may never trigger. The deal confirms interest in the platform, not a guaranteed payout.
