San Francisco-based Parakeet Health has raised US$10 million in a Series A round led by Canvas Ventures, with participation from Blank Space Ventures, StoryHouse Ventures and HMC INQ. The round, announced on October 1, 2026, and described as oversubscribed, brings the company's total funding to US$13 million. Parakeet was co-founded by CEO Jung Park, previously at One Medical and Epocrates, and Eric Mao, who led product and engineering at Microsoft and Primer AI. Aaron Lee, a former engineering leader at Rippling and Twitter, serves as CTO.

The company sells an AI platform that handles the front office work of medical practices: inbound phone calls, outbound outreach, fax processing, SMS, email and web scheduling. It plugs into existing electronic health record (EHR) and practice-management systems. Parakeet says it now supports more than 2,800 providers across 1,100+ locations and serves six of the 10 largest dermatology groups in the U.S. The company reported 10x year-over-year growth in annual recurring revenue. It plans to use the funds to expand its team and technology, improve personalization, grow with enterprise healthcare organizations and move into more specialties.

## Market Context

AI voice agents for patient access have become one of the busiest corners of health tech funding. Rival Assort Health raised a US$120 million Series C led by Menlo Ventures in June 2026 at a US$1.2 billion valuation, with more than US$222 million raised to date. Parakeet's US$13 million total is small by comparison, and the company is betting on depth in specialty care, starting with dermatology, where a national partnership with Qualderm Partners covers 160+ practices across 17 states.

The demand side is clear. A Health Affairs review estimated administrative costs at 15% to 30% of U.S. medical spending, with wasteful administrative spending reaching US$285 billion to US$570 billion in 2019\. Dermatology adds its own pressure: roughly 14,000 practicing dermatologists serve nearly 346 million Americans, and more than 30 private equity-backed platforms are still buying practices, according to Physician Growth Partners. Larger, consolidated groups tend to look for tools that standardize scheduling and call handling across many sites.

## Key Signal

> "Patient engagement determines whether demand becomes care, whether clinical capacity is used and whether a healthcare organization grows." — Jung Park, CEO and Co-Founder, Parakeet Health

## Regional Relevance

For the United States, the deal reflects a broader shift: AI is moving from clinical note-taking into the revenue-facing parts of a practice, such as filling cancellations and answering phones. Parakeet reports that its system rebooks no-show patients at up to 4.9x higher rates and canceled patients at up to 4.2x higher rates. If results like these hold at scale, AI could help practices recover lost visits without adding front desk staff, which matters in a system where administrative cost is a major driver of overall spending.

For San Francisco and the Bay Area, Parakeet adds to a deep cluster of health AI startups backed by local venture firms, including Menlo Park-based Canvas Ventures. The company's founding team draws on Bay Area alumni from One Medical, Twitter, Rippling and Microsoft, and its early backers included former One Medical CEO Tom Lee. The round shows Bay Area investors are still funding vertical AI companies that target specific specialties rather than broad, general-purpose tools.

## The Other Side

**Can a US$13 million company compete with rivals holding hundreds of millions?** Assort Health alone has raised more than US$222 million. Parakeet's case rests on specialty focus and enterprise wins in dermatology, but larger competitors can outspend it on sales and integrations as they push into the same specialties.

**How much of the reported performance is independently verified?** Metrics such as the 2.3x resolution rate versus an "established AI voice vendor" and the 4.9x rebooking rate come from the company. Buyers will likely ask for audited results and clear baselines before rolling the platform out across large health systems.

**Will patients accept AI on the other end of the line?** Automated calls can save staff time, but errors in scheduling or poor handling of sensitive requests could hurt patient trust. As AI handles more patient contact, regulators and health systems may also raise questions about privacy, consent and when a human must step in.
