Hi, and welcome to a new edition of [The Daily Dealflow](https://www.theinvestorsociety.com/tag/the-daily-dealflow/) — the 5-minute briefing that gives you clear context on capital flows and market-moving trends across the Americas, from Silicon Valley to Buenos Aires. Let's dive in.

## 🏆 Deal of the Day

Tim Cook stepped down as Apple's CEO on August 31, 2026, closing out a 15-year run in which he took the company from under $400 billion in market value to roughly $4.6 trillion — the first company ever to cross $1 trillion, $2 trillion, $3 trillion, and $4 trillion in market cap. John Ternus, Apple's longtime senior vice president of hardware engineering, takes over as CEO effective today, while Cook stays on as executive chairman – [AppleInsider](https://appleinsider.com/articles/26/08/31/tim-cook-signs-off-as-ceo-with-thanks-to-staff-and-a-tribute-to-john-ternus?ref=theinvestorsociety.com).

**Why This?:** It's the biggest corporate-leadership handoff in Big Tech history by market value, and it's a live case study in succession planning for every founder and board across the Americas with a company they'll eventually need to hand off themselves.

**Positive Context:**

- The transition was telegraphed five months in advance (announced in April 2026), avoiding the governance shock that hits stocks when a CEO exit is sudden — and Ternus, a 15-year Apple veteran who helped ship the Apple Silicon transition and Vision Pro, gives investors continuity on execution.
- Apple's market cap has grown more than tenfold under Cook, briefly overtaking Nvidia as the world's most valuable company as recently as July 2026.

**Yes, but:**

- AAPL dipped slightly the day of the handoff (to $315.16, down $4.54) as investors digest the change, and Ternus inherits a company that just watched Nvidia briefly leapfrog it in market cap — Apple's AI story still trails the chipmakers'.
- Ternus's background is hardware engineering, not the operations and supply-chain pedigree that defined Cook's own rise — a genuinely different skill set now steering the world's most valuable company.

**Zoom in:** Apple's next CEO takes the wheel just nine days before he has to walk on stage and defend the next iPhone lineup at a September 9 event where a foldable iPhone is rumored to headline — no honeymoon period included.

> **The comment:** ***"I will miss leading you and being with you for every step, even as I take enormous comfort in handing the helm to someone as brilliant and wonderful and capable as John,"*** said Tim Cook in his farewell memo to staff, per [AppleInsider](https://appleinsider.com/articles/26/08/31/tim-cook-signs-off-as-ceo-with-thanks-to-staff-and-a-tribute-to-john-ternus?ref=theinvestorsociety.com).

In regions where retail still happens mostly offline, better digital infrastructure pulls more consumers into online shopping each year. That alone drives growth. Because regions like Africa and SEA (Southeast Asia) start from a lower baseline, smaller additions lead to higher growth rates overall. The developed regions, United States, European Union and China, grow slower in this depiction because of their maturity: Not much room to grow. But in absolute numbers, even their smaller rates account for much of total e-commerce gain. This is how concentration reinforces itself. Emerging markets make the wider leaps. But they still trail so far behind that even the giants' smaller increments pull further ahead.
