San Francisco-based Supabase has raised US$150 million in a growth round led by GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, with participation from CapitalG (Alphabet's growth fund), IronArc and SquarePeg. The deal was announced on October 2, 2026, alongside the acquisition of database startup Turso. Supabase did not disclose a new valuation. In June, GIC also led its US$500 million Series F at roughly US$10.5 billion post-money. Total funding now exceeds US$1 billion. The company was co-founded in 2020 by CEO Paul Copplestone and CTO Ant Wilson and went through Y Combinator. It says the new capital will fund employee liquidity and products built for AI agents, including Supabase Compute, a hosted sandbox where agents can run long tasks.

Turso started as libSQL, an open-source version of the SQLite database, and is now rewriting SQLite in the Rust programming language. Its system lets a single server manage millions of small databases, which suits AI agents that create one for every prototype or app they build. Terms were not disclosed. Founder and CEO Glauber Costa becomes Head of Agentic Services at Supabase, and co-founder Pekka Enberg and the team join him. Turso Cloud, which serves customers such as Superhuman and Mastra, will keep running and its code stays open source. Supabase reports more than 13 million developers and about 4 million new databases a month, with roughly 70% of them created by AI agents or AI coding tools.

## Market Context

Supabase has become the default database behind "vibe coding" platforms such as Lovable, Bolt and Replit, where users describe an app in plain language and AI writes it. That demand has moved its valuation fast: US$2 billion in April 2025, US$5 billion in October 2025 and about US$10.5 billion in June 2026\. The company does not disclose revenue. Research firm Sacra estimates annual recurring revenue at about US$170 million as of May 2026, up 221% year over year.

Big data platforms are buying their way into the same trend. Databricks acquired Postgres startup Neon for about US$1 billion in May 2025, when more than 80% of Neon's databases were being created by AI agents. Snowflake bought Crunchy Data for about US$250 million a month later. Supabase's Turso deal follows the same logic, with one difference: it adds a SQLite-based engine to a platform built on Postgres, giving agents a lighter option for small, disposable databases.

## Key Signal

> "The past year has been the fastest growth in our history by a wide margin. The future is agents and the architecture Turso provides will help us accelerate Supabase as the backend platform for supporting that future." Paul Copplestone, Co-Founder and CEO, Supabase

## Regional Relevance

For the United States, the deal shows where the next fight in AI infrastructure is forming. As software increasingly gets written by AI, the companies that store the data those apps create gain a recurring position in every new product. Supabase competes with Google's Firebase while taking money from Alphabet's CapitalG, and Copplestone told Verdict that the firm's ties to the "broader Alphabet ecosystem will be invaluable." That mix of partner and rival is common in U.S. cloud markets, but it is worth watching as the category consolidates.

For Singapore, the round is another sign that GIC is placing large, repeat bets on U.S. AI infrastructure. Leading two consecutive Supabase rounds in about four months gives the fund concentrated exposure to the developer tools layer, rather than only to chipmakers or model labs. For the Bay Area, the Turso deal adds acquisitions to the toolkit of well-funded AI-era startups, which are now buying smaller teams instead of only competing with them.

## The Other Side

**Why no valuation, and why the focus on liquidity?** Supabase disclosed neither a price for this round nor the Turso purchase price. Part of the money goes to employee liquidity, letting staff sell shares. That can help retain talent, but it also means not every dollar goes into the business. Investors will want to know whether the price held, rose or slipped from June's US$10.5 billion mark.

**Can Postgres and SQLite live under one roof?** Supabase built its brand on Postgres, and Turso works on SQLite. Running two database engines adds engineering complexity. The companies say integration will deepen "in coming months," but they have not shared a roadmap, and Turso customers will be watching for changes in pricing or support.

**What happens when agents create databases nobody is watching?** On September 25, TechCrunch reported that some Supabase customers were exposing people's data online through misconfigured apps. If most new databases are created by AI tools, often for users with little technical background, setup mistakes could multiply. The funding announcements do not address security.
