Hi, and welcome to a new edition of The Daily Dealflow — the 5-minute briefing that gives you clear context on capital flows and market-moving trends across the Americas, from Silicon Valley to Buenos Aires. Let's dive in.

🏆 Deal of the Day

Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings, the firm of Mexican businessman David Martínez, agreed to buy AT&T's Mexico business for $2B. The buyers will form a joint venture funded with available cash and non-recourse guaranteed debt – Bloomberg Línea.

Positive Context:

  • AT&T Mexico had about 24.7M mobile subscribers at the end of 2025, and Televisa adds a fixed broadband business, so the pairing joins mobile and home internet.
  • Fintech Holdings brings fresh capital and experience in Mexican mobile telephony, according to AT&T.

Yes, but:

  • The deal needs regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027
  • Neither the ownership split between Televisa and Fintech Holdings nor the cash-to-debt mix has been disclosed.

Zoom in: AT&T Mexico's 2025 operating profit was under 2% of its revenue (MXN 1.4B on MXN 85.4B), so the buyers are paying for scale and subscribers more than for current margins.

Has President Donald Trump been good for American innovation? His administration has championed some cutting-edge industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence. But Mr Trump has also attacked the country’s leading universities, restricted high-skilled immigration and cut funding to public institutions that support research. The overall effect on American ingenuity is hard to track. One place to look for clues is the Global Innovation Index, published each year by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). It ranks 139 economies based on 79 indicators, from R&D spending to school test scores. Source: The Economist.
