Hi, and welcome to a new edition of The Daily Dealflow — the 5-minute briefing that gives you clear context on capital flows and market-moving trends across the Americas, from Silicon Valley to Buenos Aires. Let's dive in.

🏆 Deal of the Day

Starcloud, a Washington-based startup building satellites that run AI inference in orbit, added a $250M extension to its March $170M Series A, valuing the company at $2.3B. The round was led by Manhattan West Ventures, with Nvidia contributing $25M alongside Cisco Investments, Benchmark, EQT, Soma, NFX, 776, Cedar Capital, Goanna Capital, and Standard Capital — TechCrunch.

Why This? It's the clearest signal yet that the AI infrastructure arms race is leaving the ground: capital that once chased terrestrial data centers across the Americas is now chasing orbital ones, and the launch-capacity crunch behind it is a preview of constraints investors on both continents will be pricing into space and connectivity bets for years.

Positive Context:

  • Starcloud has now raised three rounds in under 18 months, and Nvidia's direct $25M check — its first bet on an orbital-compute startup — is a rare vote of technical confidence from the chipmaker itself, which is using Starcloud's flight data to design its first space-rated GPU, the Vera Rubin Space-1.
  • The company already operates the only known Nvidia H100 GPU running in orbit and claims the first model ever trained there.

Yes, but:

  • Starcloud's roadmap leans on SpaceX's Starship, which remains unproven at scale, while Falcon 9 — the current workhorse — is slated to retire by 2028, leaving a tightening launch bottleneck.
  • The company has asked the FCC for permission to operate up to 88,000 satellites, a regulatory and orbital-debris question far beyond anything flown to date.
Zoom in: CEO Philip Johnston said Nvidia "did way more technical due diligence on this than anybody else" before investing, using data from Starcloud's first orbital H100 deployment to validate the bet.

Poor Americans who regularly attended church reported greater happiness than wealthy Americans who never attended. The finding comes from an analysis of the General Social Survey and shows an association—not proof that church attendance directly causes happiness. Money can reduce stress. It can create options, improve living conditions, and help protect your family from financial emergencies. But it cannot manufacture faith, belonging, purpose, or genuine community. A larger bank account may make life more comfortable. It cannot tell you why you’re here, remind you that you’re not alone, or surround you with people who will show up when life falls apart. Build wealth. Just don’t expect it to do a job it was never designed to do. Source: General Social Survey / The Social Leap.
